In the heart of Des Moines, a nonprofit organization called Change Course is transforming lives and giving individuals a second chance at building successful careers.

With its unique program offering career training and support, this initiative has become a lifeline for those facing poverty, recovering from addiction, reentering society after incarceration, or navigating life transitions.

Change Course, which was launched in 2022, provides participants with invaluable resources and guidance to enhance both their personal and professional lives.

The program is modeled after CrossPurpose, a renowned venture in Denver, and has quickly gained traction, attracting individuals who are determined to change their circumstances.

Unlike traditional training programs, Change Course goes beyond the conventional classroom setting. Every Monday evening, participants gather in the basement of Cottage Grove Church, creating an atmosphere that feels more like a family reunion than a training session.

Here, participants receive crucial support from career coaches and mentors who share their own stories, lessons, and advice.

At the heart of Change Course's success is the concept of "family dinners." These weekly gatherings not only provide a platform for participants to celebrate their accomplishments but also foster a sense of community and belonging.

These dinners act as a safe space where individuals can lean on one another, learn from their shared experiences, and find the strength to persevere.

Since its inception, Change Course has welcomed 36 participants, with over 21 successfully graduating from the program. The success stories continue to grow, with a record-breaking 21 leaders enrolling this year, one of whom is the talented musician Ben Gustave.

Change Course has not only empowered Gustave but has also provided him with a platform to share his music and connect with like-minded individuals. By attending the Monday night dinners, Gustave found a community that believed in him even more than he believed in himself.

Now, armed with newfound confidence, he is turning his dreams into reality.

The impact of Change Course extends far beyond building careers. This extraordinary initiative has become a beacon of hope for individuals who have known hardship and are ready to embrace a second chance.

Through the generosity of private donations, this program offers a lifeline without monetary obstacles.

As Change Course continues to grow and transform lives, the Des Moines community has only scratched the surface of the immense potential it holds.

By nurturing talent, providing guidance, and fostering a supportive community, this nonprofit organization is opening doors and changing lives, one individual at a time.
